The Effects Of Lack Of Sleep On Physical Health - 1361 Words
The Effects of Lack of Sleep on Physical Health People think that when they have to finish something they can just stay up late to complete it and lose precious sleep time. In reality, that should not be the case. Millions of people around the world suffer from sleep deprivation. (ââ¬Å"Why Sleepâ⬠). Many people look at sleep as a luxury. Some people think that they can skip sleep and depend on coffee. The truth is the human body needs sleep. ââ¬Å"Sleep is essential for a personââ¬â¢s health and wellbeingâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Why Sleepâ⬠). Sleep provides a time for the bodyââ¬â¢s cells to recover from the wear and tear of daily life (ââ¬Å"Doesâ⬠). Sleep deprivation can lead to many physical health problems, including a higher risk of diabetes, a higher risk of obesity, andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Sleep deprivation leads to poor glucose control, which is essential for type two diabetics. Blood sugar levels are constantly high in diabetics and when they donâ⠬â¢t attain enough sleep it just adds to the high blood sugar. Studies show that not a shortage of sleep may also increase the risk of obesity, which is a major cause of type two diabetes. In this disease the body is making enough insulin, but the cells have become insulin resistant. Being overweight stresses the insides of the individual cells, causing them to have more nutrients to process than they can handle. When this happens, the cells send out alarm signals telling the cell to dampen down the insulin receptors, causing insulin resistance and significantly high glucose levels in the blood. Sleeping enough is very important for diabetics because it can help prevent and fight diabetes. As already mentioned, obesity is another risk of sleep deprivation. New observational studies are showing that there is a link between the amount of sleep a person acquires and obesity (ââ¬Å"Sleepâ⬠). Research shows that adequate sleep at night is just as important to the body as nutrition and exercise. This makes sleep extremely important for someone who needs to lose weight. Studies show that with each hour of sleep a person loses, his/her risk of obesity goes up. In general, people who are sleep deprived tend to weigh more than those who acquire enough sleep (ââ¬Å"The Hiddenâ⬠). Paper, glass, and plastic are the three main recyclable goods. a. We?ve all been at the library or at home and printed a website off the computer and didn?t realize it was going to use 50 sheets of paper and then felt guilty because we?ve always been told not to waste paper because ?we?re running out of trees.? Quoting Mr. Lehr again, ?we are not cutting down ?endangered forests? today to make paper. We plant far more trees than we harvest each year. Wood is in ample supply.? b. Glass is another resource we don?t have to worry about, since it?s made from silica dioxide, which is just beach sand, the most abundant mineral on earth. c. Plastics are petroleum based byproducts, which is limited. However, new technology allows use to make plastics from plants through fermentation. Transition: The last myth I want to touch on is energy conservation. III. A frequent pro-recycling argument is that manufacturing products from scratch rather than from recycled goods wastes energy. a. It is actually just the opposite. Making products from recycled goods uses more energy and water and produces the same or more air pollution. As stated by Recycling Today Online in January 2001, ?recycling uses more energy and financial resources to sufficiently clean material to meet quality and safety specifications.? The Change in Relations between the U.S.A Free Essays
One of the factors that caused the relationship between the USSR and the USA to change was the fact that the USA were Capitalists and the USSR ere Communists. This meant that they supported and believed different things. America wanted people to live a free life ââ¬â earn as much money as they want, allow the public to vote freely for the Government they want ââ¬â where as Stalin did not agree and thought that everyone should earn the same amount of money and that the public were only allowed to choose Communists for the Government. We will write a custom essay sample on The Change in Relations between the U.S.A or any similar topic only for you Order Now This put a big strain on their relationship because it meant that both sides wanted different things to happen in the world and it meant that they couldnââ¬â¢t agree on the same things. Another factor which caused the frosty relationship between the two powers, was the Berlin Blockade which Stalin thought would make him more in control of the Eastern/ Soviet part of Berlin. Stalin feared that the Western allies were planning the permanent division of Germany. The Western allies also began to develop a new policy such as new currency and a new German assembly which would develop a new constitution, which Stalin did not like. Stalin thought that by Blockading his part of Berlin, it would keep the Eastern part of Berlin separate and protected from the Western and that it would make him look more powerful. A third factor which caused the relationship to significantly change was the Truman Doctrine. The Truman Doctrine was a promise which President Truman had made to help any country which were threatened by Communism, by sending troops or economic resources such as money or military equipment. Truman feared that the Soviet Union would spread Communism so he thought that by making a promise, it would prevent Communism from spreading anywhere in the world. This could have put a strain on the USA and USSRââ¬â¢s relationship as Stalin could have felt as if he was being threatened by the USA. The factor which is most important, significant and was the causation for the relationship to change, was the fact that the USA were Capitalist and the Soviet Union were Communist. This is the most important factor because if it wasnââ¬â¢t for both the USA and USSR to have different beliefs, then the Berlin Blockade and the Truman Doctrine may not have existed in the first place. It may also mean that there may not have been a historical event ââ¬â such as the Cold War ââ¬â if Capitalism and Communism did not exist. The Change in Relations between the U. S.
